Israeli filmmaker Joseph Cedar wins Screenplay award at Cannes
Joseph Cedar is a talented Orthodox Jewish Film Director that recently won the Best Screenplay award at the Cannes film festival in France for a movie called “Footnote ( He’arat Shulaim)” . Cedar has also done writing for movies. He has won several significant awards in the past for other films and for his directing ability, as well.
Joseph Cedar is a United States Citizen but when he was young his family relocated to Israel. When Joseph lived in Israel he went to a Jewish school to be educated on his religion. He also spent some time in the Israeli Army as a paratrooper. He went to college in Israel and studied Philosophy and History of Theater. After college he continued his studies by coming back to the United States where he studied Cinema.
After college in the US he went back to Israel and started making films. His first film that he made was entitled, “Time of Favor”, which won multiple awards and first got him recognized for his efforts, not bad for a first film. The next film he made was “Campfire” which again was recognized by winning awards. “Beaufort” was his third movie and had won more awards.

It is interesting to note that Cedar’s father who is a Biologist has won awards for his impact on the Biological community. Joseph Cedar’s most recent movie that came out this year entitled, “Footnotes” was shown at the Cannes Festival and left with an award for Best Screenplay. Expect to see more movies from this amazing director and expect them to all be topnotch as this director does nothing less than amazing work.
