Locarno Festivals Honors Israeli film “Hashoter” (The Policeman)
In recent years Israeli films enjoy international recognition. Israeli films have even picked prestigious prizes. According to Ynet, “Hashoter”, a film by director Nadav Lapid, recently won a special jury prize for being the second best film, at the annual Locarno Film Festival.
20 films total, from around the world, competed for the honors in the 64th Swiss Festival. They included films from the countries of Lebanon, France, Switzerland, Romania and the United States.

The highest honor of the Golden Leopard prize went to “Back To Stay”, which is an Argentinean-Swiss creation that’s directed by Milagros Mumenthaler.
The movie stars Menashe Nov, Michael Moshonov and Yiftach Klein and is Lapid’s first-ever feature film. The director’s short films have been seen at festivals held Locarno, Cannes and Berlin
“Hashoter” was first released at the film festival in Jerusalem. There, the picture won Van Leer prize for Best First and Second film by an Israeli director alongside Hadar Friedlich’s film “Beautiful Valley”. However, filmmakers chose not to accept the award because the jury’s decision came with it a conflict of interest.
“Hashoter” is about the story of Yaron, which is counter-terrorism unit fighter. Yaron and friends are the gun that the State uses against the Arab enemy. Yaron’s meeting with a violent and radical group forces to him to control the country’s struggles of society class and the internal battle in his soul.
“Last Days in Jerusalem” is another Israeli-affiliated film that was also entered into the festival. This Tawfik Abu Wael creation is a joint French, German and Israeli production.
