Tel Aviv – the Gayest City in the Middle East

Over 1.6 million tourists come to Tel Aviv Israel a year to enjoy the culture of a city that never sleeps with its boundless night life and activities at all hours of the day and night. Tel Aviv has been called “the gay capital of the Middle East” by Out Magazine. Tel Aviv is friendly to the LGBT community. Tel Aviv is filled with a LGBT vibe that one would typically associate with Sydney, Australia or San Francisco, USA. Tel Aviv holds the largest pride parade in Asia which hosts over 100,000 people a year. In 2008, Tel Aviv oversaw Israel’s first sex festival. Also in 2008, the city set up an LGBT Community Center. This provided all municipal and cultural services in one place to all LGBT persons in the city.

The Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theater in Tel Aviv is the largest dance center in Israel. Tel Aviv holds 18 of Israel’s 35 centers for performing arts. Over 55% of all performances and over 75% of all attendance occurs within Tel Aviv’s city limits. The Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center is the host of the Israeli Opera. Placido Domingo was house tenor from 1962 to 1965. Classical music performances including opera are held every day in Tel Aviv. The world’s best conductors and soloists put Tel Aviv on their lists of places to play. The Israeli Ballet is based in Tel Aviv and there are many other modern and traditional dancing troops that frequent Tel Aviv for the enjoyment and enrichment of those in attendance.
